There is no doubt that the majority of my eloping couples have their wedding at Central Park, the crown jewel of Manhattan. Featured in oh-so-many movies, landmark locations in Central Park (Bow Bridge, Cop Cot Gazebo, Shakespeare Garden, and Bethesda Foundation, to name a few) are ideal spots for nuptials, for my international brides and grooms, as well as those from other countries. But, for the couple who wants a location off the beaten path, the Fort Tryon Park is a great option.
Situated in far northern Manhattan, the 67 acre Fort Tryon Park is home of the Metropolitan Museum’s Cloisters annex. A former Rockefeller estate, Fort Tryon park is at the Top of Manhattan in the Hamilton Heights/Inwood area. Easily accessible by subway (A train) or bus, it is a feast for the eyes all year round. It’s ever blooming gardens look out over an expansive Hudson River and George Washington Bridge.
The Park has many beautiful vistas and overlooks, with gorgeous flowers and landscaping, all year. For the purposes of a wedding, Fort Tryon Park hosts the New Leaf Café, a wonderful New American Bistro, perfect for a post wedding meal or cocktail.
